Fill the holes in the wall left by the screws with spackling compound or drywall joint compound. Spread the spackle or joint compound with a putty knife. Allow the compound to dry, and wipe the excess compound off the wall with a damp rag or sponge.

Touch up the spackled holes with paint that matches the wall.

• Measure the distance between the drapery hardware. Make little hash marks directly onto your tape measure to indicate their location. Add 36 inches to that measurement and record this number for the length of fabric you will need to purchase.

• Choose a sheer fabric that is relatively lightweight. Bring along an actual curtain panel the swag will be on top of (if you are adding to an existing window treatment). Choose a complementary fabric that has a print if your panel is a solid color. Choose a solid color for your swag if your panel has a print.

• Use a swag all by itself if you are addressing a designer window, or a window for which you have a shade or blind. Go for a bold pattern or color if this is the case, as this will have the most impact in your simple space.

• Lay your fabric down on the floor. Pull the tape measure out to where you can see the hash marks. Place the marked tape measure directly in the middle of the fabric.

Vacuum your Hunter Douglas sheers with a hand-held vacuum using a vertical stroke if the dirt does not come out by dusting. Start at the top and work your way to the bottom using straight strokes. Do not use a brush attachment on the Luminette series of sheers because it might damage the fabric.

STEP 3
Wet a washcloth with lukewarm water and blot any noticeably stained areas on the sheers. Add a mild clothes detergent to the wet washcloth if the stain is stubborn and dab at it. Do not rub the stain. You do not want to risk damaging the fabric in the sheer.

It's easy to repair vertical blinds, although any work on the head rails is best left to the factory's experts.

STEP 1
To remove a vane for replacement or cleaning, open the blind, lift the vane up off the hook on the holder or carrier, and bend the vane out to open the holder and down to pull it out.
STEP 2
For vinyl or aluminum vanes with a spacer chain, remove the screw or tie-down clip that secures the end of the chain. Feed the chain out through the vane you're removing and as many others as necessary to get to the damaged vane.

STEP 3
For fabric vanes, disconnect the spacer-chain connector from one side of the vane weight and pull the weight out of its pocket in the bottom of the vane.

STEP 4
To install a vane, orient its curve in the same direction as those of the other vanes. Grasp the vane near the top and gently push it up into the holder, then down to lock it into place.
STEP 5
For vinyl or aluminum vanes, thread the chain through the holes in the replacement vane and subsequently through all other vanes between the replaced vane and the chain-anchor point. To maintain the proper spacing, cut a piece of cardboard to the appropriate length, using the existing spacing as a guide. Insert the cardboard between the last installed vane and the one you're installing next.

STEP 6
For fabric vanes, reinsert the vane weight (clip side up) into the pocket of the vane and clip the spacer-chain connector to it.

STEP 7
For head-rail repairs, such as cord and hanger replacement, remove all vanes as described in steps 1 through 3 and disconnect the head rail from the mounting brackets so you can bring it in for professional repair. Typically you must rotate an arm on a mounting to unlock the head rail. Have a helper at the other end hold the blind so it doesn't fall.

Put on a gentle wash cycle for three to five minutes. Continually check on the curtains during the wash cycle to be sure curtains are not twisting around the agitator.

STEP 7
When wash cycle has completed, put the curtains on a gentle rinse cycle with cool water. Once washer has filled, add fabric softener, stirring it through the water.

STEP 8
When curtains have had their final spin, place them in the dryer on "air dry." Add three to four small hand towels to help absorb the moisture. Hang up as soon as they are dry, to ensure they will not wrinkle.

Place the tape measure on the floor and measure up to your window, then add a quarter inch to this measurement. Mark this spot. This is where you will place the top screw.


STEP 3
Position the installation bracket 3 to 4 inches from each end of the head rail on the wall. Screw in the bracket. Install additional brackets across the handrail spaced equally apart and tighten all of the screw securely.


STEP 4
Decide what side you would like the control chain and traverse cord to hang on. Center the head rail to the mounting clips and insert the front lip of it into the groove located at the front of the clips. Turn the back of the head rail until it clicks in to the back of the clip and repeat for each clip.


STEP 5
Open the blinds so that the vane holders are spaced apart evenly. Turn the chain until the stem openings face toward you and snap in all the vanes so that the curves face the same way.


STEP 6
Attach the tension pulley to the bottom of your baseboard. Put the loop of your vertical cord through the top of the pulley. Pull the tension cord until the tension pulley becomes tight with a small pull on the string.


STEP 7
Mark the cord at this spot in the track using a pencil. Release the cord from the pulley, pull it out again and tie a knot in this spot. Put the loop back in the pulley and try to open and close the blinds. If they work properly cut the extra cord below the knot.
