Sheer Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are a magnet for dust. Removing the blinds to clean them thoroughly is a hassle that can lead to bending and damaging the blinds. You can avoid damaging the hardware and can clean vertical blinds without taking them down, thus avoiding unnecessary work and possible damage. There are different considerations to keep in mind depending on if your blinds are fabric or made of a hard material such as wood or vinyl.
Cleaning Fabric Blinds
STEP 1Close the blinds. Vacuum them with the brush attachment in a downward motion.
STEP 2
Dip the sponge in the soapy water and dab any marks clean with the sponge. Do not scrub as this can cause the fabric to stretch and no longer lay flat.
STEP 3
Use the towel to soak up additional water in the fabric. Allow to air dry. Do not speed the process up with a blow dryer as this will shrink the fabric.
Cleaning Wood or Vinyl Blinds
STEP 1Close the blinds. Vacuum the blinds in a downward motion to remove any loose dust or dirt. Vacuum both sides of the blinds.
STEP 2
Spray all purpose cleaner onto one of the vanes and wipe clean with a towel. Spray one vane at a time as the cleaner can damage wood if it sits on it too long. Clean both sides of each vane thoroughly.
STEP 3
Wipe excess cleaner from the blinds with a damp sponge. Allow the vertical blinds to air dry.
